Various Orange County employment hubs are also close, with Irvine about 14 miles southeast, and Newport Beach around 14 miles south. Travel in any direction is facilitated by the Garden Grove Freeway (State Route 22), which crosses the city west to east and connects to Interstate 5 (LA — San Diego).

Garden Grove enjoys sunshine year round, low levels of rainfall, and no snow. July is generally the warmest month, with highs of around 82°F, while January typically sees lows of around 46°F. There’s very little rainfall throughout the summer, and most of the 13 inches of annual rainfall falls between December and March. Proximity to the coast means that temperatures don’t generally get as high as more inland areas of South California, which can be quite arid.

There are several spots for shopping throughout Garden Grove, such as Pavilion Plaza Shopping Center, which offers a mixture of shops, from big brand grocery stores, to smaller mom-and-pop stores. There’s also a wealth of restaurants to choose from, with cuisines including Vietnamese, Mexican, seafood, and pizza. Eateries are perhaps the city’s biggest strength, with a number of fantastic venues serving affordable, world-class dishes.

The annual Strawberry Festival is an integral part of life in Garden Grove, held over Memorial Day Weekend. As one of the largest community festivals in the country, it truly brings the community together, and attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the city. With carnival rides, food and drink stalls, competitions and much more, it’s a fantastic event for all ages.
